Last week, POLITICO (https://lnkd.in/dpYAijqy) and other media reported that the European Commission is considering dropping the EU Green Claims Directive – a move that the FEC strongly supports.
We’ve consistently raised concerns that this directive would introduce unnecessary costs and bureaucracy, with minimal added value for European consumers.
That said, the fight against greenwashing remains essential. Companies must take responsibility for transparent and honest communication – and it’s up to consumers and the media to hold them accountable when they don’t.
Abandoning the Green Claims Directive would be a welcome step within the broader OMNIBUS initiative of President Ursula von der Leyen, aiming to streamline and simplify EU regulation.
Let’s focus on smart, effective policies that empower consumers and support sustainable innovation.
